Happy Memory of Pink Kitchen

I found these pictures off the Internet from someones blog.  My memory was instantly jogged into thinking about my childhood.  Events and memories started flooding back as soon as I saw these beautiful pink kitchen pictures.

The year was 1957, Christmas,  Straight from the Sears and Roebucks catalog,  under a Drum table with lion claw feet.  The most beautiful set of miniature furniture for my Betsey McCall Doll. Pink tin, just like the ones shown above.  I made food for it out of colored clay.  I laid there for hours just looking at it.  I made up pretend events going on centered around this kitchen.  My mother must have thought she was doing me a favor when we moved to our new house about 5 years later.  She threw them away.  .  For years I have looked at flea markets, on line on EBay and have never saw them again, until now.  I have put these pictures in a frame.  When I sit and look at them, more thoughts of that time come to mind.  If I can't have the real thing, a picture will do.  I once found  the refrigerator and it was all rusted, no doubt the one my mom threw in the dump.  I was tempted to purchase it at $45.00.  Not a steal, but for nostalgia's sake.  My stomach won out and I went to lunch instead.  I have on a want  list this pink tin kitchen set.  I believe I shall have another one day.  Not  a plastic one, but a real tin one, still in the box.  Maybe hid behind the attic rafters or slid behind a wall.   I like to Dream big!

MEET RUDY- THE COMPANY SCARECROW

This is Rudy the Company Scarecrow.    In another life he was a Fireproof Suit Model.  The Fireproof jumpsuit was needed, so Rudy stood behind the curtain in the buff and scared everyone by just being there.   We found him in various places and poses (with help) doing nothing in particular but the result was always the same. As you have guessed Rudy is a wooden manniquein in the style of the 1950's ones in the  old Department stores.  Not bad looking either.

After having a few good laughs at his expense,  I felt compassion for Rudy and decided to let him become apart of our work Family and earn his board.  Borrowing some old clothes from my son, and a few fall decorations from my closet, he is now the latest member of our workforce as a scarecrow.  I covered his face with burlap, the fixed stare kind of bothered me.  He greets our customers, keeps watch over the lobby, and the best thing is he doesn't have to remember to use a time clock and punch in and out everyday.  Never a complaint, no feeding necessary and low maintenance.  That's my kind of guy.  I have selected him to be Santa Claus for the Christmas season.  We are working him in  our annual Christmas party as part of the decorations.  I will keep you posted.

This does have something to do with miniatures.  Instead of making a scarecrow that stays that way all year round, why not just use a doll and alter by dressing just as I did Rudy.   A little stuffing and straw, burlap and jute cord tied over the head, a flannel shirt and jeans, straw hat, a few blackbirds on the hat and shoulders, and you have a seasonal scarecrow.  Once the season is over you can turn him into an elf or Santa Claus for Christmas.  Snowman for January, St. Pat for March, the Easter Bunny for Easter,   Use an adult doll, or a small childs doll could be used the same.  Of course there is always Halloween.  Instead of having a dozen dolls, just have fun with one.

I have always wanted to do a Front Porch and change the season and holidays.  This would hang on the wall by the door so I could see it as I pass by it every day.  This character doll could be seated in a chair or swing on the porch.   I can see a new project in the making.

MORE USEFUL PRINTIES

Fall is almost past and winter is near.  I did not see too much color this year, but saw a lot of rain.  So I copy over a lot of pictures of Fall and pretend I saw them.

Any of the following pictures can be right clicked and saved to your picture file.

If you are planning on doing any mini baking this year, this egg carton might be what you need.  Needs sized down just a little.  I have blogged about how to do this on other blogs this past year from your picture program in  Microsoft.  The only other thing is the eggs, use a mix of brown and white with translucent fimo clay and make tiny eggs.

These crate labels are very colorful and could be the ends on crates made from coffee stir sticks or made into pictures for the mini wall.

Just in case you are doing any baking this year you might need some of these.. Size down just a tad.  My secret recipe for chocolate chip cookies I am going to share.  You will have people tell you they are the best they ever ate.  So easy and very quick to make.  Make a batch before going to work.

Chocolate chip cookies

1 generic Yellow cake mix   15.25oz
1/2 cup of oil-any kind  I use Canola oil or corn oil
2 eggs
1 tea. vanilla
1 bag of chocolate chips

Mix cake mix with eggs,  vanilla and oil.  Mix by hand until all dry ingredients are  absorbed.  Add chocolate chips and mix until blended.    Drop by teaspoon or cookie scoop and bake 350 degrees   for 12 minutes.  Another thing I use but is not available everywhere.  Powdered vanilla, sometimes found in a bulk food store.  It looks like powdered sugar and is much more flavorful than liquid vanilla.
This recipe makes 2 and 1/2 dozen cookies.  The generic cake mix is much more flavorful than the brand names.  I have tried them all but usually the store brand is the cheapest and the best.

Peanut Butter Cookies can be made using the same recipe as above but add 1 cup of chunky or plain peanut butter.  Sooo-good.  But don't take my word for it.  Bake some up and share and see the compliments come your way.

Some more colorful labels for cans or crates

A pretty clever cake from pin interest.  The web site is on the bottom.  Would be a cute one in miniature.

Finally a  message from Gertrude.  Eat more beef this Thanksgiving.!  Chicken and Turkey are so overworked this time of year, have a nice steak instead.  No matter what you have,  enjoy the day with Family and Friends doing something that is meaningful and Joyful for you.!    Finally be Thankful for everything that is a part of your life.  Without these events you would not be the awesome individual that you are.

This is a project that has a How to Attached.  I did not do it, but it looks really easy and the instructions are very clear.  www.minipat.com  It is in French I think.  Ask you computer to convert it over into English.  Go to the right hand corner where the house, star and tools are.  You will find conversion in that area.  These are Holly hocks and look nice next to a Garden fence or gate.  Every farm house has these somewhere, they come back every year, after self sewing in the Fall, except for mine, the dog keeps peeing on that spot and they are afraid to come up. Too bad that stuff doesn't work on weed control!

Daydreaming on a New Moon

If I could be anywhere it would be right here.  A little cabin in the woods, preferably a stream or waterfall outside the door. It would have a large roaring fire popping in the hearth, with a large kettle of soup bubbling.  Bread and apple dumplings in the oven.  Coffee and apple cider  warming on a wood stove.  A large table with plenty of chairs and of course all of you to join me for a day of crafting miniatures.  That would be a perfect fun day.

Shadow boxes are returning to the scene from the 1970's.  A lot can be done in a small room picture frame size.  As I get older the larger long term projects do not interest me as much as a box such as this.  It would be perfect to show off a collection of pottery, needle crafts, florals, or just a visual place to escape to.

With scrap booking being popular, many objects can be found for a box like this.  When I look at this, I see maybe a retirement box with  all of someones interests included in it.  Not much space taken, but a lot of stories going on in it.

Perhaps a present for someone who is older and reminders of  items or events in their past.

These pictures were taken from Pinterest.  A lot of you   asked about Pinterest and how to get your Home Feed.  Up next to the search box is another box with Horizontal lines going across.  Click on that and it gives you a whole lot of  specialized areas you could be.  I always close out with Home feed when I turn off.  That way everyone that I follow will come in the home feed when they post.  If you don't see anything new in the home feed, maybe they are not posting anything new, or pinning anything at the moment.  Every time someone pins an old pin, it brings it back to the top again.  So if you see it a lot, it is getting pinned     a lot.    Any time you go as far as you want on the downward bar, click on the red Pinterest on the page caption and it will bring you back home again.

I have been getting a lot of home decorating ideas for remodeling and furniture.  My Daughter recently purchased her first house.  I have been helping painting and fixing things with her.  It is a lot of fun to remake something into a beautiful, creative, eclectic item.  We found a lot of furniture pieces and have been remaking them over.  I hope to post some of these in the near future.  As I redo each item I am thinking,  This would be great in miniature!

Halloween is never over for us Miniaturists.  This paper would look great in a smaller version, especially in the hands of
